Le immagini di Steve McCurry, per lo più inedite, e altre sull’Umbria provenienti dal suo archivio personale, sono il contenuto della mostra “Sensational Umbria”, organizzata a Perugia dal 29 marzo al 5 ottobre 2014.
“Una terra ricca di tempo” è il claim che la Regione ha adottato in questi anni e le foto di Steve McCurry hanno reso possibile una lettura attraverso le immagini dell’esperienza millenaria della gente che in Umbria vive, opera o visita questa terra. Le immagini trasmettono un’ “esperienza” che restituisce una chiave di lettura della identità Umbra: la veridicità dei propri valori.
Dopo aver immortalato e dato un volto umano a conflitti internazionali, antichi popoli e culture contemporanee, lo sguardo di Steve McCurry, famoso per i suoi intensi scatti capaci di raccontare storie, si è posato sulle meraviglie umbre, sulla sua storia e arte, fra i borghi e i paesaggi, natura e tradizioni, ma anche, e soprattutto, sulla gente che in Umbria vive, lavora e s’impegna nelle diverse attività produttive.
Il frutto di questo lavoro di ricerca che è parte di un’attività di branding che la Regione Umbria sta attuando e che ha prodotto ben 1500 foto, da cui è stato “scremato” un campione rappresentativo di cento scatti, ha dato origine a ‘Sensational Umbria’.
La mostra è promossa e organizzata dalla Regione Umbria in collaborazione con il Comune di Perugia ed è allestita negli spazi dell’Ex Fatebenefratelli, appena recuperati e inaugurati per l’occasione, mentre una parte delle immagini troverà spazio nel Museo di Palazzo Penna, nella Sala delle Lavagne di Beuys.
Un territorio pieno di emozioni passate, presenti e future, una nuova sede espositiva e un allestimento innovativo hanno definitivamente coinvolto uno dei maestri della fotografia internazionale al progetto Sensational Umbria.
