The Church of Giovanni was constructed in the XIII century on the site of the ancient baptistry. The facade and the bell tower of the church are in romanesque style.

The high and elegant bell tower is certainly the most beautiful work of the city. The roof of the church, having one single nave, is supported by large cross-sectional arches erected on consoles, supported by small coupled columns, embellished by capitals carved in floral decorations.

Trivia: the Church of San Giovanni in Gubbio was chosen as the parish of DonMatteo, the priest protagonist of RAI Fiction “Don Matteo”.
