The Theme of 2016 Edition

“Flesh & Blood, family affairs” is the theme chosen for 2016 UMF. This edition is focused on the family, with the purpose of developing a deep and open-minded reflection about a subject too often object of trivializing and manipulation. The international photographers who will exhibit during the festival will present some series of galleries with various visions of the family as foundation core of human society, in an intimate human sphere linked to the purest feelings.

The idea is to represent the concept of the family through the language of photography, that is particularly adapted to tell this type of relationship. The photographic mean of expression will illustrate the way in which this concept has changed very rapidly in recent years, as the artistic director Marco Pinna explains us:

” From the happy and bucolic family of the French self-taught photographer Alain Laboile, to the desperate and violent one of Sara Lewkowikcz, award-winning American author who will also present a work that tells the story of two women, companions in life, who lived at the same time the adventure of pregnancy and motherhood. We will find also the video work of Nicoletta Cotechini, which shows us the joys and torments of a very special family from the Marche region. And finally, we did not want to forget another kind of extended family, which also is the most popular of all; that of Gombe chimpanzees, studied for decades by the renowned primatologist Jane Goodall and portrayed by Anup Shah and Fiona Rogers. A photographic work of great empathy, with an amazing familiarity in which we can recognize us, and that reminds us that at the end, on this planet, we are all part of the same big family. “

 >> Come to admire the exhibitions of the festival, there are many offers to stay in Umbria and Foligno!
