Città di Castello, and to be precise the Fattoria Autonoma Tabacchi (FAT) in Cerbara, is ready to host its 46th National Horse Show, the Mostra Nazionale del Cavallo di Città di Castello, from September 14th to 16th, 2012.

This National Horse Show is one of the oldest in Italy and the second most popular (after that of Verona, ed), with roots that sink in the Middle Ages, 1032 to be exact: in honor of the patron saint San Florido were organized 10 days of celebration, with two exhibitions of goods and livestock, jousts, Palios and Berber horses races. After the suppression caused by the French Revolution, the festivities started back in 1827. In the early 30s of the last century became known as the “Mostra Mercato del Mulo” (Market-Exhibition of the Mule), at the Forum Boarium, but was suppressed again because of the Second World War. Only in 1967, following the decision of the City Council, was born the “National Horse Show”, and a few years later ‘moved’ definitely to the FAT (Fabbrica Autonoma Tabacchi di Cerbara – Tobacco’s Autonomous Factory of Cerbara).

900 units will make a fine show, with championships and international events related to the breeding of horses, trials, exhibitions, halls, conferences and gastronomic delights. The guest of honor at the 2012 Mostra Nazionale del Cavallo di Città di Castello (last year was Varenne, ed) will be the legendary jockey in the Palio di Siena “Aceto“, aka Andrea Degortes.
To anticipate the start of the event a parade of amazons, knights and horses in the historic center of Città di Castello during the evening of Thursday, September 13th, 2012.

The 2012 Mostra Nazionale del Cavallo will observe the following hours: from 9:00 to 19:00. Ticket price € 12.00, reduced € 6.00 for children aged 6 to 12 years and for over 65. Friday, September 14th, 2012 and Saturday, September 15th, 2012 evening show from 21:00 to 23:00.
