  • la Gara del Mercato. Dalle ore 10:00 di domenica 30 Giugno 2013;

  • la Gara dei Mestieri. 24 Giugno 2013 San Giovanni e San Giorgio, 25 Giugno 2013 Santa Maria e San Pietro;

  • la Gara Gastronomica. 26 Giugno 2013 San Giovanni e San Giorgio, 27 Giugno 2013 Santa Maria e San Pietro;

From June 20th to 30th, 2013 Bevagna (preview Sunday, June 16th, 2013, 20:30 Piazza Silvestri, with the Medieval Banquet by the Gaita San Giorgio, ed), small built up area located in the center of the Umbria and inserted between I Borghi più Belli d’Italia (The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy), will once again host its Mercato delle Gaite (Gaite Market).

The Mercato delle Gaite of Bevagna is an historical reenactment of the daily life of the village between 1250 and 1350. The term Gaite or Guaite, descending from the Longobard Watha (guard), was used to indicate the 4 districts (San Giorgio, San Giovanni, San Pietro e Santa Maria) of the town.
But the event is not just a “Festival of Medieval Crafts“, with its Workshops, it is a real contest, so that the Gaite organize their markets independently and compete with each other in 4 challenges to contend for the Palio della Vittoria, assigned to the district who will play more closely the role that covered in the Middle Ages:

  • la Gara del Mercato (the Market Competition). From 10:00 hours of Sunday, June 30th, 2013;
  • la Gara dei Mestieri (the Crafts Competition). June 24th, 2013 San Giovanni & San Giorgio, June 25th, 2013 Santa Maria & San Pietro;
  • la Gara Gastronomica (the Culinary Competition). June 26th, 2013 San Giovanni & San Giorgio, June 27th, 2013 Santa Maria & San Pietro;
  • la Gara Sportiva di Tiro con l’Arco (the Sport Archery Competition). June 20th at 21:00 and June 23 at 09:00 and 15:00.

From Friday, June 21st, 2013 and until the end of the 2013 Mercato delle Gaite, June 30th, 2013, will be open the Taverne, from 20:00 (Sundays also for lunch) and with medieval dishes. And the Locande, from 19:00.

Will be 11 days in which the modern Bevagna will merge with the ancient one, where between music, theater and juggling on the streets the inhabitants of the village will leave their clothes to wear the robes of nobility, peasants, artisans and magistrates. A real dive into the history!
