Ogni anno a Gubbio, il 15 Maggio, vigilia della morte del Patrono della città, Sant’Ubaldo, si celebra la Festa dei Ceri, all’interno della quale si svolge la famosissima Corsa dei Ceri.
I Ceri sono tre grandissime macchine fatte di legno, caratterizzate da due enormi prismi ottagonali appuntiti alle estremità, attraversati da un’asse. Ad una tavola chiamata “barella”, stanno fissate le antenne trasversali che si posano sulle spalle dei “Ceraioli”…(i partecipanti alla corsa). Sopra ad ogni Cero si trovano le statue dei Santi: Sant’Ubaldo per il Cero dei Muratori, San Giorgio per il Cero degli Artigiani e dei Commercianti, Sant’Antonio per il Cero dei Contadini.

E’ bene non intralciare per nessun motivo il percorso durante la Corsa perché i Ceri non si fermano; è opportuno stare a debita distanza e tenere sempre vicino a sé i bambini e non portarli nella folla; è necessario munirsi di abbigliamento comodo e pratico ed in caso di pioggia è meglio non portare ombrelli.
