Il Monte Cucco, 1.566 m di altezza, si trova nella zona nord-orientale dell’Umbria, al confine con le Marche. Compreso all’interno dell’omonimo Parco Naturale Regionale, è situato tra i comuni di Fossato di Vico, Costacciaro, Sigillo e Scheggia e Pascelupo (PG).

L’azione dell’acqua nei secoli ha inciso la roccia del Monte, di origine calcarea, ed ha permesso la formazione della Grotta di Monte Cucco: 30 chilometri di gallerie ed una profondità massima di 929 metri la rendono uno dei sistemi ipogei più importanti e studiati d’Europa. Di questi 30 chilometri, 800 metri son di percorso sotterraneo accessibili a tutti, organizzato in itinerari che uniscono trekking e speleologia.
E per il 2012 il nuovo ciclo di escursioni ha preso il via dal 1° Maggio, per concludersi il 30 Novembre 2012. Titolo di quest’anno: Al centro della terra – Viaggio alla scoperta del percorso escursionista nella Grotta di Monte Cucco.

Novità principali il Percorso Avventura, durata 5/6 ore, tragitto dedicato alla scoperta dei tratti più nascosti e più ‘tecnici’ della Grotta, con annessa visita alla Galleria delle Colonne; ‘Speciale Ragazzi‘, escursioni per ragazzi di età compresa tra i 15 ed i 18 anni (tutti i venerdì di Giugno, Luglio ed Agosto). Confermatissime invece l’escursione classica (prenotazione obbligatoria), la Traversata (prenotazione obbligatoria), il Percorso Scoperta (prenotazione facoltativa) e l’escursioneNotturna‘ (nei giorni di luna piena, prenotazione obbligatoria).

Of these 30 kilometers, 800 meters of underground route are accessible to all, organized in itineraries that combine hiking and speleology.
And for 2012 the new cycle of hinking have begun May 1st, ending November 30th, 2012. Title of this year: Al centro della terra – Viaggio alla scoperta del percorso escursionista nella Grotta di Monte Cucco (In the center of the earth – Journey of discovering to the hiking routes of the Cave of Mount Cucco).

Main novelties are the Percorso Avventura (Adventure Path), duration 5/6 hour, journey dedicated to the discovery of the most hidden and most ‘technical’ stretches of the Cave, with a visit to the Galleria delle Colonne (Gallery of Columns); ‘Speciale Ragazzi‘ (‘Kids Special‘), excursions for kids aged between 15 and 18 (every Friday in June, July and August). Confirmed instead the classical excursion (reservations required), the ‘Traversata‘ (Crossing, reservations required), the Percorso Scoperta (Discovery Way, optional booking) and the ‘Nightexcursion (during the days of full moon, reservations required).
