Situato appena al di fuori dell&#8217;abitato, dalla parte sud del centro storico di Gubbio, il teatro fa parte dell\u2019area archeologica che prende il nome <strong>&#8220;<\/strong><em>Guastuglia<\/em><em>&#8220;,<\/em> dove si suppone si sviluppasse il vasto quartiere tardo-repubblicano (II-I secolo a.C.) della citt\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p>Al tempo della sua costruzione, si stima che il teatro fosse tra i pi\u00f9 capienti dell&#8217;epoca e che potesse accogliere <strong>tra i\u00a06000\u00a0ed i 7000 spettatori<\/strong>. Per rendersi conto dell&#8217;importanza, basti pensare che il famoso Teatro Romano di Pompei costruito nello stesso periodo ne ospitava 5000.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"http:\/\/www.bellaumbria.net\/it\/storia-e-archeologia\/teatro-romano-gubbio\/attachment\/gubbio-teatro-romano-2\/\"\" rel=\"\"attachment\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\"aligncenter\" title=\"\"Gubbio-Teatro-Romano\"\" src=\"\"http:\/\/www.bellaumbria.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/1970\/01\/Gubbio-Teatro-Romano.jpg\"\" alt=\"\"\"\" width=\"\"590\"\" height=\"\"324\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Nel Teatro Romano di Gubbio<\/h2>\n<p>Prima ancora di varcare la soglia del teatro noterete il particolare rivestimento dei muri, prodotto con la<strong> pietra calcarea locale<\/strong>. All&#8217;interno, la cavea presenta un diametro di <strong>settanta metri<\/strong> ed \u00e8 divisa in quattro cunei da corte scalinate attraverso le quali si accedeva alle file di posti a sedere. Esternamente alla cavea, si trova un recinto costituito di una duplice serie di arcate su pilastri, delle quali la superiore era preceduta da un colonnato che insieme ad essi veniva a formare un portico tutt&#8217;attorno alla sommit\u00e0 delle gradinate stesse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La visita del sito<\/strong> permette in particolare di apprezzare come potevano originariamente articolarsi la scena ed il prospetto architettonico alle sue spalle, cos\u00ec come l&#8217;orchestra, le basiliche laterali, gli spalti ed i fornici.
