La piazza cos\u00ec come la conosciamo oggi prese la sua fisionomia tipica solo nel secolo successivo, quando vennero demoliti una serie di antichi palazzi che occupavano proprio quegli spazi.<\/p>\n<p>Scopriamo allora insieme qualcosa di pi\u00f9 sulla <strong>storia<\/strong> del Duomo e sui <strong>tesori artistici<\/strong> che conserva, per poi passare alle informazioni pratiche per la visita.<\/p>\n<p><a><img class=\"\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"\" height=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Storia e edificazione del Duomo di Spoleto<\/h2>\n<p>Il Duomo venne edificato nel luogo in cui sorgeva un edificio di culto pi\u00f9 antico, distrutto qualche decennio prima da Federico Barbarossa e le sue truppe, denominato Chiesa di Santa Maria del Vescovato e risalente all&#8217;VIII-IX secolo.<\/p>\n<p>Consacrato da Papa Innocenzo III nel 1198, il Duomo fu interessato da <strong>interventi e modifiche<\/strong> successive ancora per molti secoli. Se l&#8217;edificazione si concluse a met\u00e0 del XIII secolo, abbiamo gi\u00e0 detto che la piazza assunse la sua fisionomia attuale a met\u00e0 del XIV secolo.<\/p>\n<p>Tra il 1491 e il 1504 vennero aggiunti <strong>i portici della facciata<\/strong> <strong>in pieno stile rinascimentale<\/strong>, realizzati da Antonio Baracci. Per conferire maggior senso di magnificenza alla facciata stessa, vennero inserite 5 arcate sormontate da una trabeazione decorata da un terrazzo superiore. Qui, nel corso delle principali festivit\u00e0 di Spoleto, venivano esposte le Icone della Vergine Maria che potevano cos\u00ec essere ammirate dall&#8217;intera folla radunata in piazza.<\/p>\n<p>Nel corso del 1600, la chiesa fu interessata dal rifacimento degli <strong>ambienti interni in stile barocco.<\/strong> L&#8217;impianto del duomo stesso and\u00f2 ad essere completamente rinnovato, con la ricostruzione della navata centrale e di quelle laterali, dell&#8217;altare maggiore e di quelli dei transetti.<\/p>\n<p><a><img class=\"\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"\" height=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Ammirare il Duomo di Spoleto<\/h2>\n<p>Ad oggi, campanile e facciata conservano l&#8217;antico e bellissimo aspetto romanico, cos\u00ec come il portale maggiore finemente scolpito, mentre gli interni della chiesa sono totalmente differenti come struttura. Clicca e consultale subito.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>L&#8217;interno del Duomo e i suoi affreschi<\/h3>\n<p>Nell&#8217;alto della facciata a capanna, ornata di rosoni e arcate ogivali cieche, fra i simboli dei quattro evangelisti spicca il grande mosaico bizantineggiante del 1207 il quale raffigura Cristo tra la Vergine Maria e S.Giovanni.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;interno si presenta a croce latina e a tre navate su pilastri. Da quelle laterali, si aprono varie cappelle che vennero aggiunte solo alla fine del XVIII secolo.<\/p>\n<p>Tra le tante opere di grande pregio artistico del Duomo, segnaliamo:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>nella prima cappella di destra un affresco con <em>Madonna e Santi<\/em> del <strong>Pinturicchio;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>sopra il portale mediano, il busto in bronzo di Urbano VIII del <strong>Bernini;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>nel transetto destro la <strong>tomba del pittore Filippo Lippi;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>nell&#8217;abside, un pregevole ciclo di affreschi realizzati proprio dal Lippi tra il 1467 e il 1469, raffigurante le Storie della Vergine (Annunciazione, Transito di Maria, Nativit\u00e0 e Incoronazione).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Inoltre, nella Cappella delle Reliquie situata al termine della navata di sinistra, si trova <strong>una delle reliquie pi\u00f9 preziose<\/strong> legate alla vita di San Francesco di Assisi.
