In San Feliciano al Trasimeno there is the Fishing Museum, a center of documentation and testimony of the activity that for centuries was the main one in Trasimeno.<\/p>\n

Fishing for Lake Trasimeno was also more than a job, but a way of life and a culture. Through fishing, the museum then gives us a real insight into the history and life of the lake and its inhabitants.<\/p>\n

It is a very special museum, where the fruit of years of research by scholars and researchers from the University of Perugia was collected, who investigated the relationship between fishing, fishermen and the communities of Trasimeno.<\/p>\n

THE MUSEUM AND SAN FELICIANO<\/p>\n

It is no coincidence that the Fishing Museum is located in San Feliciano, on the western shores of Lake Trasimeno. The town has in fact a centuries-old fishing tradition, an activity to which it is still deeply linked.<\/p>\n

San Feliciano is today a small fishing village, a picturesque village where you can stroll through the alleys, relax on the lakefront and admire the fishermen’s boats, moored in the small harbor or offshore, while they cast their fishing nets.<\/p>\n

Ferries also leave from San Feliciano for Polvese Island, which can be reached in about ten minutes. The Polvese Island, the largest of the three Trasimeno islands, is a naturalistic jewel rich in historical evidence, waiting to be discovered.<\/p>\n

WHAT TO SEE AT THE FISHING MUSEUM<\/p>\n

The San Feliciano Fishing Museum aims to enhance the “culture of water”, linked to the economic and social importance of fishing for the communities living on the shores of the lake.<\/p>\n

The Museum is divided into 4 rooms, each named with the moments of the day that mark the life of a fisherman: dawn, noon, afternoon and evening. The rooms retrace the evolution of fishing techniques, from prehistoric times to today, and there are 5 aquariums that house various species of fish characteristic of the lake (bleak, tench, sun perch, perch, queen carp).<\/p>\n

The Museum also has a rich photographic archive and a multimedia video room with a particular \u201cboat\u201d shape, which can accommodate about 40 spectators and is used for educational activities, video conferences or events.<\/p>\n
