Calendimaggio in Assisi is one of the oldest historical events and takes place during the weekend of May 6-7-8-9 in one of the most beautiful cities of Umbria: Assisi.
To make suggestive atmosphere during Calendimaggio of Assisi are the hundreds of people in medieval clothes and beautiful performances that see the two opposing sides of the town. Under the gaze of an international jury, which are part of a historical, a musicologist and a personality of the show called to decide the winner of the Palio, the two parties are performing in a three-day event.
It begins with the delivery of the banners and keys, act whereby the powers of the city pass by the Mayor to the Maestro de Campo. Following the establishment of so-called “scenes”, the representations of medieval life in dialect or in the ancient language, accompanied by music, dancing and shows.
In the central day of May Day in Assisi, in addition to a second round of scenes, takes place the election of Madonna Spring, a girl chosen among the ten candidates for the title, five for Part. Our Lady of May Day in Assisi is elected among the five of the Party that wins the race of medieval games.
In each of the five archers of contrata winning matches one of the candidates: who wins the race of the crossbow, the victory also assigns to his lady. The highlight of May Day in Assisi is on Saturday, when they place amazing parades with hundreds of figures, musicians, singers, dancers and surprises of great visual effect.
