Orvieto e tutto l’Orvietano aspettano ogni anno, con impazienza e gioia, l’arrivo del periodo che va dalla Pentecoste alla Festa del Corpus Domini. Tra celebrazioni religiose, cortei storici, mostre, buon cibo e buon vino, rappresentazioni teatrali, mercati e sport. Per il 2013 ancor di più, visto il Giubileo Eucaristico Straordinario concesso da Papa Benedetto XVI in occasione del 750° anniversario del miracolo di Bolsena. Dal 18 Maggio all’8 Giugno.

Si parte sabato 18 Maggio 2013 (anche domenica 19, ndr), dalle 10:00 a Piazza XXIX Marzo con Orvieto in Fiore – Mostra Mercato Florovivaistica “Se son Rose…”. Dalle 11:00, Concorso “Balconi e Vetrine in Fiore” ed i comitati dei 4 quartieri di Orvieto (Corsica, Stella, Serancia, Olmo) decoreranno, con composizioni floreali, Piazza San Domenico, Piazza Gualterio (S. Giuseppe), Piazza S. Andrea, Piazza S. Giovenale. Dalle 22:30, centro storico, Notte in Fiore, con musica itinerante.

Preludio alla Festa della Palombella, 19 Maggio 2013 piazza del Duomo, storica rappresentazione per la festività della Pentecoste, istituita nel secolo XV dalla famiglia dei Monaldeschi. A mezzogiorno in punto il Capomastro della Fabbrica del Duomo con un cenno ordina, dopo aver ricevuto il via dal Vescovo che si trova sulla loggia dell’Opera del Duomo, che vengano accesi i razzi sistemati nella parte posteriore della raggiera, così che la bianca colomba simboleggiante lo Spirito Santo inizi la sua discesa lungo un cavo d’acciaio teso, dal tiburio della Chiesa di San Francesco al Cenacolo allestito davanti alla porta maggiore della Cattedrale. Il Cenacolo riproduce il disegno del Reliquiario di San Savino ed è opera degli orafi senesi Ugolino di Vieri e Viva di Lando. Quando la Palombella termina la sua corsa, raggiungendo terra, “s’incendiano i mille botti”, come pittorescamente annotò un cronista: avviene, infatti, lo scoppio di numerosi mortaretti e sulla testa della Madonna e degli Apostoli, raffigurati in atto di preghiera, si accendono le rosse fiammelle di cui parlano le Sacre Scritture.
Nel pomeriggio, a partire dalle 17:00, Piazza del Popolo, “Palio della Palombella” con il Torneo dei Balestrieri. Il Palio sarà assegnato in base alla somma dei punteggi ottenuti nella gara delle Infiorate e nel Torneo dei Balestrieri.

Sempre dal 19 Maggio, e fino al 2 Giugno 2013, l’8a edizione del Festival Internazionale d’Arte e Fede con mostre, spettacoli, concerti, incontri e conferenze. Per ulteriori informazioni festivalartefede.it.

Tra il Museo “Claudio Faina” ed il Museo Archeologico Nazionale potrete ammirare la mostra: “Da Orvieto a Bolsena: un percorso tra Etruschi e Romani“. L’esposizione ripercorre, attraverso oltre un millennio di storia, le vicende della città-stato etrusca di Velzna – l’ultima a cadere in mano romana dopo un lungo assedio – e della sua erede Volsinii che ne accolse – sulle alture del lago di Bolsena – gli abitanti superstiti.

L’ultima domenica di ogni Maggio, in tutto il territorio nazionale, si svolge Cantine Aperte. Giuseppe), Piazza S. Andrea, Piazza S. Giovenale. From 22:30, historic centre, Notte in Fiore (Night in Bloom), with traveling music.

When the Palombella ends its run, reaching the ground, “s’incendiano i mille botti” (“the thousand bottlerockets catch fire”), as picturesquely noted a chronicler: is, in fact, the outbreak of numerous firecrackers and on the head of the Virgin Mary and the Apostles, depicted in the act of prayer, light up the red flames spoken of in the Scriptures.
In the afternoon, from 17:00, Piazza del Popolo, “Palio della Palombella” with the Tournament of Crossbowmen. The Palio will be assigned based on the sum of the scores obtained in the challenge of the Infiorate and the Tournament of the Crossbowmen.

The exhibition traces, through more than a millennium of history, the events of the Etruscan city-state of Velzna – the last to fall into Roman hands after a long siege – and his heir Volsinii which received – on the heights of Lake Bolsena – the surviving inhabitants.
