Il Calendimaggio di Assisi è una delle manifestazioni storiche più antiche e si svolge nelle giornate del 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 Maggio in una delle città più belle dell’Umbria: Assisi. A rendere suggestiva l’atmosfera durante Calendimaggio di Assisi sono le centinaia di figuranti in abiti medioevali e le bellissime esibizioni che vedono contrapporsi le due fazioni della cittadina. Sotto lo sguardo di una giuria internazionale, della quale fanno parte uno storico, un musicologo ed una personalità dello spettacolo chiamati a decretare il vincitore del Palio, le due Parti si esibiscono in una tre giorni di eventi.

Si comincia con la consegna dei vessilli e delle chiavi, atto con il quale i poteri della città passano dal sindaco al Maestro de Campo. Segue l’allestimento delle cosiddette “scene”, le rappresentazioni di vita medioevale in dialetto o in lingua antica, accompagnate da musica, danze e spettacoli.

Nella giornata centrale del Calendimaggio di Assisi, oltre ad una seconda tornata di scene, avviene l’elezione di Madonna Primavera, una ragazza scelta tra le dieci candidate al titolo, cinque per Parte. La Madonna del Calendimaggio di Assisi viene eletta tra le cinque della Parte che vince la gara dei giochi medioevali.
A ciascuno dei cinque arcieri della contrata vincente corrisponde una delle candidate: chi vince la gara di tiro con la balestra, assegna la vittoria anche alla sua dama. Il momento clou del Calendimaggio di Assisi è il sabato, quando hanno luogo stupefacenti cortei con centinaia di figuranti, musici, cantanti, danzatori e sorprese di grande effetto visivo.

To make suggestive atmosphere during Calendimaggio of Assisi are the hundreds of people in medieval clothes and beautiful performances that see the two opposing sides of the town. Under the gaze of an international jury, which are part of a historical, a musicologist and a personality of the show called to decide the winner of the Palio, the two parties are performing in a three-day event.
It begins with the delivery of the banners and keys, act whereby the powers of the city pass by the Mayor to the Maestro de Campo. Following the establishment of so-called “scenes”, the representations of medieval life in dialect or in the ancient language, accompanied by music, dancing and shows.

In the central day of May Day in Assisi, in addition to a second round of scenes, takes place the election of Madonna Spring, a girl chosen among the ten candidates for the title, five for Part. Our Lady of May Day in Assisi is elected among the five of the Party that wins the race of medieval games.
In each of the five archers of contrata winning matches one of the candidates: who wins the race of the crossbow, the victory also assigns to his lady. The highlight of May Day in Assisi is on Saturday, when they place amazing parades with hundreds of figures, musicians, singers, dancers and surprises of great visual effect.
