Umbria Jazz 2011

Umbria Jazz comes back to Umbria in 2011, a brand new event which will offer you the best international and Italian Jazz.
Wonderful concerts have been organized!

Music will mark the summer in Perugia as usual, warm, touching notes will sound in the streets and Perugia will be plunged in the typical, unique atmosphere which characterizes the Festival...

The program of 2011 edition, that will take place from 8th to 17th July 2011, provides exceptional guests such as Carlos Santana, for example, who will tread the stage July 12, or Caro Emerald and Dee Alexander planned on 8th July; on 9th July a Tribute to Miles will take place, with the participation of Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Marcus Miller, who celebrate the 20th anniversary of Miles Davis' death, thei absolute master.
On 16th July BB King will get on the stage, preceded by a great preview with Trombone Shorty.

All these concerts will take place inside the open air theatre Arena Santa Giuliana, one of the festival' main locations together with the theatre Pavone, the Oratorio Santa Cecilia and open spaces in the city centre, like Piazza IV Novembre and the public gardens Carducci.

Differently to what happened in the past, today Perugia is already getting ready to welcome tourists who are coming to the festival, especially with all his hotels and restaurants, B&B, and holiday farms in the country.

We have mentioned some problems connected to hospitality for tourists…
But what do we mean with it?
Maybe you don't know, but one of the most important musical festivals in the world has a long, turbulent story back in its early days.
The Festival was born in the early 70's, and the first big event dates back to 1973…
At the beginning it was a free, itinerant event. Since its beginning famous artists started coming to perform, and so a lot of tourists came to Perugia, unexpectedly: the city was not prepared to welcome this crowd.
The logistic problems went on until 1976, when Umbria Jazz stopped for a while, and only in 1982 it began its second phase.
In 1982 the festival changed its format: from an itinerant event to a stable one, from a free festival to a festival with fee.
From that moment the festival has not been stopped anymore.
