2011 Umbria Folk Festival - 5th edition

Music, folk traditions, typical products and the encounter between different cultures. All this in the historical center of Orvieto (TR), thanks to the fifth edition of Umbria Folk Festival, from 25th to August 28th, 2011.

And this year's edition opens with a not folk artist, but welcome guest: on the 25th from square Piazza del Popolo will perform Caparezza, from 21:30, with his Eretico tour. € 13 + cost of presale. But each day will be plus of the main concert: first is the Cicchetto Folk, start at 18:00, aperitifs with live bands; after there will be Taverna Folk, from the 23:30, an open space with Jam sessions, improvisations, street artists.

August 26th, 2011, will be the day dedicated to Mother Earth, the common thread of the whole event. The Festa della Terra (Earth's Feast) will start from 18:30 with the recalling of the old peasant traditions of the threshing of wheat. At the 20:00 Cena della Terra in Piazza (Dinner of the Earth in the Square), with background music groups that perform traditionally and popular music. At 21.30 Ambrogio Sparagna & Orchestra Popolare Italiana performance, with the participation of Peppe Servillo, Antonio 'O Lione & Poeti in Ottava Rima.

On 27th August another great performance linked to the world of popular tradition. At 21:30 on stage is, in fact, the great Neapolitan artist Enzo Avitabile, accompanied by i Bottari of Portico, overwhelming popular percussionists. To precede them - exclusively at Umbria Folk Festival – will be, at 21:00, the Tombak's virtuos, Persian percussion instrument, Mohammad Reza Mortazavi. Another novelty this year is the Workshop to be held at the Mancinelli theatre in Orvieto Sunday, August 28th from 14.30 to 19.30 on "Suoni, musiche e danze della terra" (Sounds, music and dances of the earth). The protagonists of the last night will be, at 21:30, Almamegretta & Reiz, in their Reunion tour.

And, in addition, will come back for its second edition the Folk Fiera: Mercato della Terra e delle Arti (Market of the Earth and of the Arts). The Folk Fiera Fair will be a wandering in the streets of the picturesque old town of Orvieto, between craft and gourmet products.
