2011 Palio de San Michele, 49th edition

Like every year, Bastia Umbra (PG) is ready to turn into open-air theater with the Palio of San Michele, which this year reaches its 49th edition, from 17th to 29th September, 2011. And you can swear that the four districts of Bastia (Moncioveta, Portella, San Rocco and San Michele) will battle in the three challenges called Sfilata, Giochi and Lizza (Parade, Games and a Relay Race).

To open this year's Palio will be, on 17th at 22:00, the Achtung Babies, U2 tribute band.

The first challenge is scheduled Sept. 21st to 24th, where every evening Piazza Mazzini will host the Sfilate. The term has remained the same of the '60s, when the floats paraded through the streets. Today there are some real drama, carried out by hundreds of people. On 21st touches to San Rocco, 22nd at Sant'Angelo, the 23rd to Moncioveta and, last but not least, on 24th the Portella Parade.

The 26th is the day dedicated to the second challenge, that of the Giochi. That will be four: the tug of war, the race to the bag, the maypole, "The builder".

The last challenge is scheduled for Sept. 28, when the main square full of people from every corner. Four riders compete for the quarter are between palpitations and chased in Lizza, a relay 4x400 meters. At the end, based on scores in all tests, is delivered to the winner of the Palio.
Each evening will be open to the public four taverns located in the heart of Bastia Umbra, where you can taste the typical dishes of the Umbrian tradition. The search for ancient neighborhood menu featuring flavors, enhanced by animations, live concerts and DJ until late at night.
