Palio dei Quartieri - Palio of the Districts - 2011

From 1st to August 7th, 2011, coming back to Nocera Umbra (PG) the Palio dei Quartieri (of the Districts), which divides the town into two "factions" of two different eras. In fact, the Palio is held between the Quartiere Borgo San Martino, representing the period between 1350 and 1450 and marked by yellow and blue, symbols of wheat and water; and Quartiere Porta Santa Croce, which reproduces the time between 1820 and 1920, with red and green, bravery and hope.

The Palio dei Quartieri will be true held Sunday, August 7th, from 16:00. There will be two challenges to determine the winner: the first is the horse race Gara del Roccio. The second is a foot race called the Gioco de La Dama Infedele: staffetta e portantina (Game of the Unfaithful Lady: relay and sedan). At the end of the challenges, the Palio will be given at 23:30 and at midnight will be the closing fireworks show.

But the challenge is not just sports. It will also be cooking, with the revival of old recipes, different between the neighborhoods. The taverns open on 1 August, with hours from 19:00 to 00:00. It will also be of historical parades, with that of the Porta Santa Croce on August 2nd, from 21:00. Borgo San Martino will respond the next day, at the same time. In addition, every night the old town is transformed with locations in the ancient and historical arts and crafts workshops, art exhibitions and photography. In particular, Thursday, August 4th, 2011 there will be a commemoration of the historic theater and entertainment district of Porta Santa Croce. The next day will be again the turn of Borgo San Martino.

Saturday, August 6th space, from 16:00, to the Palio dei Bambini (Palio of the Children). Meanwhile from 21:30 there will be the Notte Bianca del Palio (Palio's White Night), with a performance by drummers and flag bearers of Nocera Umbra. All night long there will be museums and exhibitions, shops and bars open with music and traveling shows.

Patroness of the opening night of the1st, from 21:00 to Piazza Caprera with the reading of the Bando, will be the Italian model and showgirl Melita Toniolo.
