2011 Perugia-Assisi Peace March, 19th edition

6 hours. 24 Km walk. But the Italian peace movement has never been impressed by the distances and on September 25th, 2011, departing from the historic center of Perugia and arrived in the "City of Peace", comes the nineteenth edition of the Perugia-Assisi Peace March.

The 2011 edition will be full of meanings. Will fall, in fact, exactly fifty years and one day later, September 24th, 1961, the first march, organized by Aldo Capitini. On that day, also, was used for the first time the Flag of Peace as we know it today, with the 7 colors of the rainbow, arranged horizontally, from the coldest to hottest. And to celebrate this anniversary, the nineteenth Peace March from Perugia to Assisi will have the same theme of the first: "Per la pace e la fratellanza tra i popoli" ("For peace and brotherhood among peoples").

There will be lay and religious leaders from all over the globe, many Italian municipalities and provinces, agencies and organizations, national and international, involved in the fight against poverty, for social justice, equality of rights of peoples, against sex, religion and race discrimination. But even ordinary citizens, and ordinary tourists.

The march will start from the Giardini del Frontone of Perugia at 9:00 and arrive at the Rocca Maggiore of Assisi to 15.00, after there will be a closing event. It is not necessary to make the whole journey: you can get to the parade starting at Santa Maria degli Angeli or directly reaching the fortress of Assisi.
In addition, in the two days before (23rd and 24th September, 2011), Meeting space for young people around the world, at Umbria Fiere di Bastia Umbra (PG): "1000 giovani per la pace" ("1000 Youth for Peace"). It will be a great International University for Peace, a place of encounter, dialogue and planning around three key words: peace, jobs and future. Little curiosity: the Meeting is called 1000 because it was the number of participants expected, but in reality are already 4000...
