The Infiorate of Spello 2011 - The Floral Decorations of Spello 2011

The Infiorate of Spello, as the name suggests, are floral arrangements, performed by real artists, representing liturgical figurations and ornamental motifs that adorn the path of the procession of Corpus Christi.
The transformation from simple flowers on the pavement in distributed real "carpet" and floral paintings took place around the nineteenth century. However, the real artistic evolution can be traced back to 1930, when a woman on the street drew a simple figure with floral broom and fennel. The work won immediate applause of the villagers, who wanted to imitate immediately, launching a "positive" challenge for the realization of ever more beautiful and works great, depicting Jesus and the miracle of the Eucharist, with motifs of fantasy or "copying" existing paintings. Since then, the Feast of Corpus Christi in Spello became a joyous occasion in which all families, and later groups of flowers of more experienced, they could compare their work and reward those judged best technical skill, precision and creativity.

The flower festivals, made only with plant and floral elements, require preparatory work for weeks, but are supplemented with fresh flowers in just one night. These floral arrangements have brilliant colors and subtle shades, and are a masterpiece of artistic imagination in Spello.
An explosion of colors and scents, about 1500 meters of carpets that are spread along all the streets and squares of Spello, creating a spectacle of great beauty. Each year during dell'Infiorata held at the Public Gardens of the exhibition also Spello Nursery where selected exhibitors will present their collections of orchids, cacti, carnivorous plants, roses. For the year 2011 the national competition of photographic art will be inspired by 150 years of the Unification of Italy.
