Assisi liegt auf den Abhängen des Berg Subasio, oberhalb des Tals, wo die Flüsse Topino und Chiascio fließen.

Der Ursprung der Stadt Orvieto liegt in der Etruskischen Zeit: Spuren der ersten Siedlungen gehen auf das 9.Jh. v. Chr. zurück, in den Tuffsteinhöhlen rund um die Stadt.

Obwohl Spoleto klare römische Einflüsse in der Struktur der Stadt zeigt, ist das ganze Aussehen stark vom Mittelalter (besonders vom Frühmittelalter, der Zeit des Langobardischen Herzogtums und später vom Kirchenstaat) geprägt.

Perugia, die große alte Arce Guelfa liegt in der Mitte Umbriens, mit seinen fünf historischen Stadtteilen noch von Etruskischen Mauern umgeben: riesige viereckige Basteien (gebaut vor etwa 22 Jahrhunden) sind noch heute teils sichtbar.
