2011 Giostra (Joust) dell'Arme, 38th edition and Le Gioie e l'Indiscreto (The Joys and the Indiscreet)

San Gemini (TR), one of the Borghi più belli d'Italia (Most beautiful Villages in Italy, is preparing to wear the colors of the two Rioni (Districts), Rocca and Piazza for the 38th Giostra (Joust) dell'Arme, from September 24th to October 9th, 2011.

The event is inspired by the Local Statutes of the fourteenth century, where there is already a trace of equestrian competitions in the name of Saint Gemine, the patron saint of the medieval village. The Joust, on Sunday, October 9th from 16:15 at Campo de li Giochi, is a tournament consisting of six riders, three for Rione. Riding their horses have to catch a ring of 5 cm. with a javelin and then run it at a target, the Arme, a gentilizio coat of arms, divided into bands of different colors and shapes, with different scores. Each rider has 3 rounds, and the Rione which totals the highest score wins the Palio, a cloth of red velvet.

The two Districts also will compete in the historical-recalling events: those of the Rione Piazza "IN NOMINE DOMINI…" and "IN NOMINE DOMINI… MEDIA AETATE, COMMUNIS VITA" Saturday, October 1st from 10:00 am; the two of the Rocca District, "I MERCANTI ORIENTALI si affacciano nel Medioevo Italiano - Dal Mare… l'incontro di mondi diversi" and "UFFA SEMPRE LA STESSA STORIA…", respectively from 16:30 and from 21:30 of Sunday, October 2nd.

For the duration of the Giostra will reopen the old shops and the "Taberne" (Taverns), with traditional dishes. Also in the care of two districts there will be other stage plays of medieval life, meetings and concerts.

There will certainly be the Corteo Storico (Historical Parade), Saturday, October 8th, 2011 from 22:00, leaving from square Piazza San Francesco. In addition, there will be two exhibits ("Da Carsulillus a San Gemini... Storia della città" and, from Palazzo Canova, "Antonio Canova: Artista Italianissimo") and the Tournament of Historical Bow. The tournament will take place Sept. 25Th, from 8:30 to Piazza San Francesco.

During the same period of the 2011 Giostra dell'Arme, and again in San Gemini, at the restaurant Antica Carsulae (Via Tiberina, 2) there will be an exhibition-market called "Le Gioie e l'Indiscreto - Arte ed Artigianato in Mostra... per stuzzicare gli occhi e la mente" ("The Joys and the Indiscreet - Art and Craft Show... to tease the eyes and mind".
