Feast of the Rose and Rite 2011

Roccaporena is a real "country soul", a place where the people have always perceived the dimension of the spirit.

The Feast of the Rose, the flower symbol of Rita and her native country, is all geared to intense meditation. For 2011, this festival falls on the third Sunday of June, but to experience the full meaning of the event should meet in the evening before, Saturday night. In fact, it moves from the Sanctuary in the light of sun flares, and steps into the center are decorated with evocative meditations on the great events of the soul, the spiritual journey of man from baptism and the Eucharistic mystery distribution to all present of blessed bread.

On Sunday morning the festival is dedicated to the thousands of pilgrims who come during the year Roccaporena. Special attention is given to all women named Rita, which is given a rose and a scroll commemorating the day of the Rite.

The festival closes each year in the night, with spectacular fireworks that leave the two sides of the narrow valley and cross right over the rock of St. Rita, another tribute to Rita and all who come to pay witness of faith.
