Festa dell'Ascensione a Castelluccio di Norcia - The Ascension Day of Castelluccio di Norcia

The Ascension Day of Castelluccio di Norcia is one of the most important festivals for the little town in the heart of the park of Mount Sibilla, called "The roof of the Apennines ".

After Mass, at 11 o'clock, start an uphill procession. After walking about a kilometers you will reach "Su lu cunnuttu": here there is an altar adorned with the most beautiful flowers that bloom in the vicinity, where the priest invokes the protection of the saints and blesses the countryside, seeking protection from fire, hail, by the weather, grasshoppers and frost.
Meanwhile, children are binge "Zazzetta" and "Canniji" (parts of bittersweet herb which grows spontaneously in the spring), but before they put in their mouth recite a nursery rhyme that says "Santu me the morsel Santa nozzle magnet zazzetta".
The Pastors of Castelluccio, with the milk of the sheep that are milked on the day of the Ascension, made a special cheese that is marked with the date of the holiday, and it is used during the holidays about to be given to personalities or who has made a particularly favor.
The place name "Lu cunnuttu" comes from the water pipe, made with the roof tiles, which until a century ago from the source of the Conserva, about three kilometers away, where it ended. It is in this place that all women of Castelluccio came to draw water for the house and washing their laundry.
