In this special, however, we will speak of the events in this green region for 2013 Easter, considering the period from March 25th to April 1st. Starting from civil events then move on to the most famous Umbrian Celebrations for the Holy Week.
For quite some years, now, the week leading up to Easter in Umbria can not begin without the RAI 1 Concerto di Pasqua (Easter Concert), promoted by Progetto Omaggio all’Umbria and first appointment of the 2013 Assisi nel Mondo Festival, dedicated to UNICEF Italy for the collection of funds for the children of the world. On March 25th, 2013 at 18:00 (broadcast network on Good Friday, March 29th, 2013), Duomo of Orvieto, will perform the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, conducted by Zubin Mehta. In Giuseppe Verdi Preludes I and III act of the opera "La Traviata"; L. V. Beethoven, Symphony no. 6 in F major, opera 68 "Pastorale".

Still in Orvieto, but from March 23rd to May 19th, the 2013 Orvieto Musica e Cultura Festival, 3rd edition. The event's programme brings to the fore a selection of songs of the great composers of classical music tradition performed, in some cases, following the review of contemporary masters. 2nd concert on March 30th, 2013 starting at 17:00, also this one at the Duomo, with the Orchestra e Coro del Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, conducted by Charles Dutoit. Camille Saint-Saens - Samson et Dalila; Gabriel Fauré - Requiem, Op. 48 - Pie Jesus, for Soprano and Orchestra - In Paradisum, for Choir and Orchestra.

The Sant’Agostino’s Chiostro, in the center of Montefalco, will host from March 30th to April 1st, 2013, the 13th edition of Terre del Sagrantino (Lands of the Sagrantino), an event that focuses on the Montefalco wines, Rosso and Sagrantino. But there will also be other food excellences of the territory as olive oil, legumes, grains, honey, cakes, cold cuts and quality craftsmanship with the presentation of textile works. In addition, there will be exhibitions, Easter markets, concerts and much more.
In Orvieto from March 28th to April 1st the Rassegna delle Pizze di Pasqua dell’Orvietano (Orvieto Easter Pizzas Festival), 11th edition. Public competition dedicated to one of the symbols of the Umbrian tradition: the Pizza or Torta di Pasqua (Easter Pizza or Cake), do not confuse with the normal pizza, that, even today, is made with recipe variations, both by famiglie, both by the ovens and pastry chefs throughout the Orvieto country. The Festival awards the "best Orvieto’s Easter Pizza", focusing attention on the pizzas as symbolic and real food of the Easter time. In addition, Gourmet Competition with "professionals" and "amateurs" sectiones, "Pizza Dolce" (Sweet Pizza) and "Pizza Salata" (Savory Pizza). With free tasting paired with the wines of the Enoteca Regionale dell’Umbria.

ART & CULTURE
25th edition for the Mostra Concorso Nazionale Ovo Pinto (Ovo Pinto National Contest-Show), in Civitella del Lago, Baschi. From March 31st to May 1st, 2013 exhibition of paintings and works, free theme, on the eggs. The painting of the eggs during Easter Time is an ancient custom that dates back to the Romans and still common in Europe, especially in Central Italy where it is a tradition deeply felt.

The first exhibit scheduled at Minigallery_Assisi for the 2013 spring/summer calendar will be dedicated to the couple Armando Moriconi - Andrea Pinchi, both Foligno’s guy very close to Assisi. Moriconi is a sculptor, a lover of marble, Carrara white and black of Belgium, the second painter, of historical organara family that in the paintings returns life to old materials from its tradition of craftsmanship. The exhibition will be curated by Francesca Briganti and will be open from March 23rd until April 7th, 2013.

In Spoleto for 2013 Eccellenti, interviews and lectures of the Accademia Spoletina, the conference hall of the Biblioteca Comunale Friday, March 29th, 2013, starting at 16:30, Alfonso Marchese will interview Alberto Zuccari, an aeronautical engineer of the QFP.
Remaining in the city of the Festival of the 2 Worlds, we report 3 exhibitions that can be visited at Palazzo Collicola, all curated by Gianluca Marziani: the anthology of Gastone Biaggi; Biocities of the contemporary photographer Carlo D’Orta, the mix of painting, sound and color by Max Ciogli in Nuova Memoria. At the Archaeological Museum of Amelia from March 30th to May 12th Bronzi Preziosi (Precious Bronzes), solo show of Anna and Massimo Ranalli. The exposisition is inserted into the series of events known as 1963 - 2013: Cinquantant'anni dalla Scoperta del Germanico. The artists, master goldsmiths, will create works inspired by the bronze statue of the Roman warlord.
Until May 4th, 2013 the Palazzo Mazzancolli, site of the Terni’s Statal Archive, will host the photo & documentary exhibition Le Lettere di Frate Gabriel (The Letters by Frate Gabriel). 150 years after the birth of Gabriele D'Annunzio (12 March 1863) letters, telegrams, autograph notes, photographs and newspapers fruit of the correspondence (and admiration) among 3 persons, the Commander, the Ternano Elia Rossi Passavanti (one of only 2 Italians to receive the Gold Medal of Valor both in the First and the Second World War; was then a politician and also Podestà and historian of Terni. And just to his city he left, before he died, his huge archive of documents) and the wife of the latter, the Piedmont noblewoman Margherita D’Incisa di Camerana. Exposition divided into 2 parts: Fiume, from November 1919 to May 1920; the Vittoriale, from July 1922 to September 1930.
Always in the city of St. Valentine, halls of the Palazzo di Primavera, Istanti al femminile (Women’s Instants), photo exhibit. This one will be divided into 2 sections, too: the first dedicated to the unpublished snapshots of the National Photographic Competition organized in 2012 by the Orneore Metelli Municipal Art Gallery Istanti al femminile - Attualità in immagini; the second, called La città delle Donne (The Women’s City), will be a journey into the twentieth century Terni women’s told through photos collected by the BCT, Terni Municipal Library. From March 8th to April 14th, 2013, 10:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 19:00, Monday closed.

CELEBRATIONS FOR THE HOLY WEEK
We’ll going to list the most famous and important religious events of the Umbrian Easter. Lion's share, of course, Assisi, the town best known for the same, considering the charm of the place, the intensity of the performances and the deep-rooted spirituality that characterizes this land. But even in Gubbio, Norcia and Cascia and surrounding areas Easter is deeply felt, with liturgies, processions and representations:
path of the Holy Thursday in Assisi;
Good Friday in Assisi, with the 2 processions of the statues of the dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows, from the Cathedral of St. Rufino to the Basilica of St. Francis and return through, in the morning procession, the cloistered monasteries;
Great Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) at the foot of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, Assisi;
the other ways of the Cross on Good Friday. In Todi, Gualdo Tadino, Montefalco, Terni, Perugia, Gubbio, Orvieto, Spoleto and other towns is relived the Christ's martyrdom in the "Via Crucis" with a path to the Calvary, as for example in the borgo of Sigillo and Fossato di Vico, or the representation of the passion and death of Jesus through real tableaux as happens in Cascia, Norcia and in all the villages of the Valnerina;
the Messa del Crisma at the Cathedral of St. Rufino, Assisi;
the Scavigliazione, fourteenth century Ceremony. Also this one at the Cathedral of St. Rufino;
the Ora Santa in Bastia Umbra, at the Church of St. Rocco;
ancient rite of the Rinchinata in Cannara. At the Church of St. Matthew of Cannara, in the province of Perugia, be held the ancient rite of Rinchinata which resumed the meeting of the risen Christ with the Virgin Mary. From two churches begin two processions, one with a statue of Jesus, the other the Madonna. When the two processions meet a few meters of each other, the two statues are made bow;
Vespertina Mass and procession of the Rinchinata in Bastia Umbra;
the Quadri Viventi (Tableaux) of Città della Pieve. The charming basement of Palazzo Orca, on March 31st and April 1st, 2013, will host the play, with about 40 walkers on, of the Quadri Viventi, the scenes of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ. The Quadri, 6, will be The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, The Ecce Homo, The Flagellation, The Pity on the Dead Christ and The Resurrection. Taking a cue from the Italian painting tradition of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries;
Sacred Representation of "The Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus" in Baschi, loc. Pantanelli. At the shrine of St. Angelo in Pantanelli every year on the evening of Easter Sunday, starting at 21:00, is staged a touring theatrical play, with 12 moving Quadri, which recall the last days related to the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The 105 actors of the artistic staff divided the show between the striking portico in front of the sanctuary and the woods below. In the cave where S. Francis of Assisi lived is represented the scene of the Resurrection;
Easter Monday of Assisi.
