The Dance pays tribute to Gian Carlo Menotti with the principal dancers of New York City Ballet

100 years since the birth of the Master Gian Carlo Menotti, his figure is more alive than ever. Not only thanks to the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, but also for his love and talent in composing music for ballet.

August 20th, 2011 will be a special evening. At 21:15 from the square Piazza Duomo of Spoleto (PG) will perform in fact the principals of the New York City Ballet dancers. Will be present the principals Ashley Bouder, Megan Fairchild, Sarah Mearns, Tiler Peck, Tyler Angle and Joaquin De Luz, Gonzalo Garcia, Sebastien Marcovici and Andrew Veyette, who will play beautiful choreography, created by George Balanchine, Christopher Wheeldon and Jerome Robbins. The latter signed, in 1958 and 1959, the opening of the first two editions of the Festival. Be repeated a few titles by George Balanchine presented during his debut in Spoleto in 1965: Tarantella, Agon and Stars and Stripes.

It was impossible to bring together, in one show, all international dance players who have participated in over fifty years of the Festival of Two Worlds. Thus was born the idea to re-propose the profile projections through art curated by Massimiliano Siccardi. The Cathedral of Spoleto will turn into a large movie screen with the most significant images, real installations, the most famous companies and leading performers in the history of the Festival. Names such as Jerome Robbins, Paul Taylor, John Neumeier, Twyla Tharp, Mats Ek, Merce Cunningham, Bill T. Jones, Alvin Ailey, Jean Babilée, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Rudolf Nureyev, George Balanchine and Bob Fosse, John Cranko, Glen Tetley and others.
The faces of the protagonists of an entire century of dance you will find an evening meeting which will be projected one hundred images, symbolically retracing the hundred years of the Master.
