Canti e Discanti - Umbria World Fest - X edition

In Foligno returns for its tenth edition and from July 7 to 23 July, 2011, the multicultural festival, "Canti e Discanti", which this year also will be called "World Fest Umbria".
Estonia, Cuba, Haiti, Iraq, New York, Libya, Argentina, Macedonia, Basilicata, Naples, Langhe, Piemontesi, Calabria: these are some of the countries and places told through music, photography, cinema and theater. To underline the cooperation with the Embassy of Estonia in Italy, which together with Tallinn, European Capital of Culture 2011, will focus its activities in Italy on the occasion of Umbria World Fest. Rich program, chosen by the artistic director Piter Foglietta.

For music, always been the main protagonist of the festival, at Piazza della Repubblica ("Music Square"), beginning at 21.30, will perform some of the most successful artists and groups in Italy and worldwide. The Mau Mau (July 13) will celebrate their twentieth anniversary; the Parto delle Nuvole (July 22) will lead the "Onda Calabra", "Calabria's Wave", in Foligno; you can dance in the streets thanks to the Balkan brass band by the name of Kocani Orkestar (July 7 ), to hear, Italian preview, the "sound of the North" by the Estonians Ro:Toro (July 14) and, last but not least, be conquered by the faces and voices of Peppe Barra (July 20).

The photo will be on stage at the Palazzo Candiotti ("Palace of photography"). Four exhibitions, from July 9, at 21.30, will be showcasing the works of some of the most important photojournalists worldwide.
"Look & Loop - The Loop Magazine from shots of the crisis" is the title of the exhibition curated by Stefano Simoncini (Loop Magazine Photo Editor) and Riccardo Venturi (winner of World Press Photo 2011) with pictures of 22 famous photojournalist: from the Pulitzer Prize Rick Loomis to Peter Masturzo, who won the World Press Photo 2010, Ashley Gilbertson, who won the "Robert Capa" Gold Medal, up to the same Riccardo Venturi.
By Giancarlo Ceraudo are shots that are part of "Soy Cuba", curated by Marco Pinna (Staff Editor, National Geographic Italy) that has represented the essence of the soul of Cuba. Still is the star Riccardo Venturi with "Shadows", an exhibition of images of the Libyan martyrs of the uprising. In collaboration with the Embassy of Estonia in Italy and Tallinn European Capital of Culture 2011 will be "Magnificent Estonian Wild Nature", where nature and the great northern Estonia are revealed in all their grandeur and solemnity, landscapes photographed by Remo Saavisar.

For the cinema section the festival will present, at the Piazza del Grano ("Square Cinema"), "Passion" by John Turturro (July 10) and "Coast to Coast Basilicata" by Rocco Papaleo (July 11) , a classic like "Buena Vista Social Club" by Wim Wenders (July 18), with a look at the Estonian film "Sugisball (Autumn Ball)" by Veiko Õunpuu, Horizons Award at the Venice Film Festival (July 17), and music with the "Concerto" by Radu Mihaileanu (July 21).

Theatre section is the novelty of the year for "Canti e Discanti - Umbria World Fest." Will be opened with the show's Tarot Suite by Lemur Theatre (in collaboration with Zoe theatre). Appointment for 8 and 15 July at Palazzo Candiotti beginning at 21:30.

At the Trinci Palace ("Palace of Music and Tales") the kids section, with two performances as "Fagiolino" (July 12, at 21) and "Amor Amore di Patria" (July 19, at 21) with fairytale and concert match, preceded by workshops for children.

All events are admission free, with the exception of Peppe Barra's concert and the Tarot Suite's show.
