Old Terni

Starting from St.Francis Square with its beautiful church of the same name, continue along Via Fratini and Via 11 Febbraio until you arrive at Piazza Duomo, where, obviously apart from the Duomo, (Cathedral), the Roman amphitheater is well worth a visit.
Turning back taking the pretty Via Roma and skirting the old tower Barbarasa, Palazzo Spada is to be found, in front of which the beautiful small church of St. Salvatore is situated. Arriving in Piazza della Repubblica you'll see the Old Town Hall, now seat of the Bibliomedioteca. Continue in direction of the Corso Vecchio, where in Piazza Carrara you'll find the church of St. Peter with its marvellous apsis and the church of St. Laurence.

Modern and Ridolfian Terni

The architect Ridolfi has been of the greatest importance for the urbanistic and architectonic development of Terni.
Parting from Piazza della Stazione - dominated by the "Great Press" a storical example of of Terni's steel-works machinery and, at the time, the world's largest press - and continuing along the Via della Stazione you'll arrive at Piazza Tacito, realized by Ridolfi. Continuing along the Corso, you'll find the Largo Villa Gloria, also work of the famous architect. Further on, one reaches the Piazza del Popolo,which was planned, along with its buildings and the Corso del Popolo again by Ridolfi. Situated at the end of the Corso del Popolo, you should not miss the l'obelisque "lancia di luce", a work of art by Arnaldo Pomodoro.

Dalle alte cime dei Monti Sibillini l’acqua scorre, defluisce in mille rivoli verso la Valnerina attraverso vie sinuose e profonde che nella sua millenaria azione di erosione ha scavato dentro la roccia dando vita a gole e canyon e creando uno scenario incredibile.
In questo ambiente si crea uno scenario unico per il torrentismo anche a medio livello. Le rapide del fiume Nera, sotto la Cascata delle Marmore sono un posto ideale per fare rafting: la fantastica discesa delle rapide in gommone. Qui il fiume Nera scorre veloce per oltre 3 chilometri formando rapide di quarto grado, contornato da una vegetazione rigogliosa in ambiente di tropicale memoria. Inoltre é possibile praticare canoa fluviale; é stata creata la scuola di canoa riconosciuta dalla Federazione Italiana Canoa Kayak. Sono previsti corsi speciali di canoa slalom nell’impianto presente nell’ultimo tratto del percorso del rafting sul Nera. Le lezioni si svolgono nel lago di Piediluco dove c’è un'altra sede del Centro. Le attrezzature specifiche possono essere fornite in loco.

From Terni one takes the State Road "Valnerina" and after 7 Km you'll arrive at the Marmore Waterfalls.
Continuing along the Valnerina, after 11 Km. one reaches Ferentillo. After another 6 Km., one arrives at the recently restored Abbey of St. Peter in Valle, with its important paintings.

From Terni to Piediluco

From Terni to Piediluco

Having taken the State Road "Valnerina" from Terni, after 13 Km. one takes the Provincial Road following directions for Montefranco.
Returning to the State Road, one goes to Arrone to continue on the Provincial Road to the town of Polino, at about 12 Km.'s distance. Retracing the route back from Polino, at the last cross-roads before arriving again at Arrone turn to the left following directions for Piediluco. After 12 Km. on the Provincial Road you'll arrive at Piediluco Lake.

From Terni to San Gemini

Having left Terni on the State Road n. 79, after 9 Km. you'll arrive at the beautiful small town of Cesi.
After another 5 Km. you'll find the impressive ruins of the Roman city of Carsulae. One then returns to the road in direction of Acquasparta, noted for the Amerino Spring, also called " of St. Francis", which is famous for its healing effects. Returning to Terni, after 6 Km. one arrives at the very well-known San Gemini Mineral Water Springs, which are situated inside a park. At 3 Km.'s distance from the Springs you'll find the medieval town from which they take their name: Sangemini, truly impressive.

After having taken the National Road "Flaminia", after 15 Km. one arrives at Narni, a very old and beautiful city of pre-roman origins dominated by the newly-restored Albornoz castle.
Continuing on for about circa 14 Km. you'll arrive at Stroncone, which is surrounded by medieval walls and towers, with interesting buildings dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. At a few kilometers' distance, you'll find the "Prati" (meadows), a vast elevated plateau (m. 1050), from which it is possible to undertake excursions to the Cimitelle (Km. 2).

From Terni to Calvi dell'Umbria

After having taken the National Road "Flaminia", after 15 Km. one arrives at Narni.
Having arrived at Narni, it's possibile to continue in direction of Otricoli to reach the highway junction at Magliano Sabina or to turn to arrive at Calvi dell'Umbria. At Otricoli one can visit the beautiful archeological site of Ocriculum and the Collegiate Church (15th century); at Calvi you'll see a caratteristic small town and the surrounding wooded mountains.

Length: min. 3 days max. 7 days (Difficulty: medium/medium-high)
The route goes from the River Park of the Nera river up to the Sibillini Mountains Park. Departure from the Excursion Centre at the Marmore Waterfalls (Terni).
Discovering the territory surrounding the Marmore Waterfalls: ecological walks, trekking, trails with the possibility of several excursions, such as descents to caves, mountain biking, canoeing and rafting. Following the Nera river along its path passing through several centres with historical, artistic and environmental interest. After crossing the Valley of river Corno and the Stretta di Biselli (Perugia), the trekking will end up in Norcia, the town of St. Benedetto.

La Valnerina

La Valnerina

Duration 3 days: arrival of the participants in the Abbey of “San Pietro in Valle” in Ferentillo. Visit of the main antique monuments of the city, remained to testify its past in the actual context of a modern and industrial city.
Departure for the Valnerina valley with visits to the characteristic towns and villages that characterizes this territory (Visit of Vallo di Nera, Scheggino, Arrone, Ferentillo). The Marmore waterfalls and the Lake of Piediluco are competing the itinerary in one of the most uncontaminated place of Umbria. It is possible to use an eco-boat for a tour on the Lake or to practice canoeing and rafting on the Nera river.
Departure for Cascia, destination of numerous pilgrimages to the famous Sanctuary of Santa Rita. Excursion to Roccaporena, native village of the Saint. Continuation towards Norcia, located in a high plateau surrounded by mounts and birthplace of Saint Benedetto. Return in the evening in Ferentillo.

Day One: Orvieto - Narni
Arrival in Orvieto and visit to the town: the magnificent Cathedral, the Cliff, St. Patrick's Well. In the afternoon arrival at Narni and visit to Narni underground.
Day Two:Spoleto - Carsulae

I Day: Arrival in Terni and visit to the town: Piazza Tacito, St.Cristoforo's Church (13th century), St. Francis's Church (13th century) and the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
In the afternoon visit to St.Francis's Holy Cave, to St.Girolamo's Church and St.Francis's Church in Narni; on to Calvi dell'Umbria for a visit to St.Francis's Church.
II Day: Departure to Montenero, in the Amelia area, and visit to the convent of Santissima Annunziata; on to Amelia: Piazza della Repubblica and visit to St.Francis's Church. In the afternoon visit to the Doria Pamphili Castle, the Chapel of Swallows and St.Francis's Church in Alviano.
III Day: Departure to Acquasparta and visit to St.Francis's Church; on to Sangemini and visit to St.Francis's Church. In the afternoon excursion on foot along the slopes of Mount St. Erasmo in Cesi and visit to the "Romita"; later, visit to the Church in Colle dell'Oro.
IV Day: Departure to Stroncone and visit to the Convent of the Blessed Antonio Vici; continuing on foot to Greccio and visit to St.Francis's Convent. In the afternoon visit to the convent "La Foresta" in Rieti.
