Die Stadt Montefalco liegt auf einem Hügel, oberhalb der Flüsse Topino und Chiascio, in der Mitte einer wunderschönen Landschaft.
Viele Gebäude sind in der Altstadt sehenswert: das Rathaus und die Kirche Sant'Agostino (beide von 13. Jh.); die romanische Kirche San Bartolomeo mit dem Stadttor Friedrich II (Baujahr1224) und die Kirche Santa Chiara, mit ihren Umbrischen Fresken.
Die berühmte Pinakothek befindet sich auch in einer Kirche, und zwar in der Kirche San Francesco (14. Jh.): einige der wertvollsten Bilder und Kunstwerke Umbriens befinden sich hier, wie z.B. eine Krippe von Perugino, und viele Fresken von Benozzo Gozzoli.
In der Nähe der Stadt liegen noch zwei wichtige Kirche: Santa Illuminata (16. Jh.) und San Fortunato (15. Jh.); in der zweiten sind noch andere wichtige Werke von Benozzo Bozzoli sichtbar.
Nicht zu vergessen: der weltberühmte Wein Sagrantino wird in dieser Stadt produziert.
